In general:

50 years in port operation, marine transport, navigation and cargo handling: 16 years at sea - thereof 10 years as Senior Officer. 4 years as Cargo Superintendent, 6 years as Marine Superintendent, now 17 years as independent marine consultant with maritime and port assignments world wide, many of them funded by WB, ADB and EU.

Selected experience and assignments in West & North Africa:

UN FAO / Tema Food Complex Corporation and JL, Ghana, West Africa: On-site project manager and responsible for the off loading and land transport of the food aid (wheat) to inland mills and distribution centres. Liaised with government officials, the army, port authority and the mills.

Societe Ivorienne de Navigation Maritime, Ivory Coast: Port Captain and responsible for marine terminal, ship and bulk / break bulk cargo operations in North and West Africa.  

Sierra Rutile Limited, Sierra Leone, West Africa: JL On-site project Manager and responsible for the Sherbro river based ship loading operations of rutile sand from special covered river barges to bulkcarriers.

SAMC Gypsum Division, Nigeria, /West Africa: Port Captain and On-site manager, responsible for the river navigation to Koko and Sappele and ship to barge to shore transfer of gypsum.

Sociate des Ciments du Gabon, Gabon, West Africa: Port Captain, responsible for the ship to shore transfer of raw material using river based selfpropelled landing crafts and bulkcarriers.

JL Offshore - Ivory Coast: Marine inspections in Liberia, Nigeria and Gabon for possibilities to discharge and transfer offshore oil & gas exploration units from semi-submersible ships.

Sotonam, Lome, Togo: On-site manager negotiated the ship to shore to factory transfer of cement clinker using ships crew on board self discharging hydraulic grab fitted handysize bulkcarriers.

Sivomar Abidjan, Ivory Coast: Technical instructor and trainer, teaching local African officers and crew in most aspects of port, marine and cargo operations onboard their own 15.000 dwt semi-container ships.

J. Lauritzen / Casablanca / Morocco: Cargo Superintendent. On-site feasibility study of new smaller Moroccan port facilities to be used for Panamax bulkcarriers loading and discharging dry bulk commodities.

Suez Canal Authority / Egypt: Project Manager, negotiated canal transit conditions and payments for semi-submersible ships carrying oversized offshore oil drilling rigs from Europe to India and Sri Lanka.
