In general:

50 years in port operation, marine transport, navigation and cargo handling: 16 years at sea - thereof 10 years as Senior Officer. 4 years as Cargo Superintendent, 6 years as Marine Superintendent, now 17 years as independent marine consultant with maritime and port assignments world wide, many of them funded by WB, ADB and EU.


Selected experience in inspections, marine accidents, purchase etc.:

Attended Lae Tidal Basin inspection of container port construction site and Pre-bidding meeting in Lae, Papua New Guinea with IPBC PMU for Construction Supervision Consultancy for the 30 months port construction time frame.  Preparation on the ADB funded project details for later start.


Maritime Operations Specialist with SMEC for the ADB funded Domestic Maritime Transport project in the Maldives. Inspection of Male’ North Harbour facilities Inspection of Dhoni operations Preparation of training material and implementation of on the job training in accordance with the training needs assessment for Ministry of Transport - Verification of proposed harbour charges for North Harbour. Conduct willingness to pay services and provide recommendations - Assistance in ensuring broad based stakeholder consultations develop time bound action plan for proposed harbour usage charges - Assist drafting harbour user charges approval documents according to procedures issued by Attorneys general office – Develop a training program for Harbour Management Staff - Implementation of the training program through formal and on the job training - Development of a Harbour Management & Operation manual for North Harbour including Harbour User Pay charges

Inspection of a 50 year Antarctic old polar expedition ship “Barao de Teffe” ex “Thala Dan” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in order to evaluate and try to move her from the breakers yard to a Museum position in Victoria, Australia.

Marine Management, Navigation & Operation expert – long term consultant for BCEOM, partner in the 5 nation COWI lead consortium in the GFC (Global Framework Contract) for EU / European Commission. Team Leader and on-site 7.5 months in Bucharest, Constantza and the Danube river ports in Romania, for the assignment: EU PHARE Program RO 0107.12.02 - Technical assistance to the General Directorate of Maritime, Danube and Inland Waterway Transport in the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing, for strengthening its administrative capacity. Tasks in Port State Control, Flag State Inspections, Search & Rescue plus International Ships and Port Facilities Safety Code. 

Marine Manager – for P&O Maritime Services, Melbourne. In charge of on-site shipping, agency office and cargo transfer operations in Bing Bong Ming Lease 1126 - Mc Arthur River Mine, Northern Territory and the anchorages using own 3200 dwt shuttle bulkcarrier “Aburri” Inspections of lost cargo conveyor boom, grounding, channel silting, cargo hold surveys, plus acting for Australian Quarantine and Customs.

Marine Incident Inspector - for Marine Board of Victoria in Melbourne. Marine investigation into a collision between two containerships "MSC Sonia" and "Ever Apex" in Port of Melbourne.

Marine Incident Inspector - for Marine Board of Victoria in Melbourne Investigation into the "Taganrog" incident, a tankers collision with a wharf in Geelong.

Surveyor - for Jardine Shipping in Queensland, Australia. Pre-purchase inspections of multipurpose ship "Rangitata" for possible trading in Northern Australia.

Marine Incident Inspector - for Marine Board of Victoria in Melbourne. Investigation into the "Pathfinder II" incident, a bulk carriers collision with a wharf in Geelong.

Marine Inspector & Surveyor - for Sumitomo Fertilizer, Australia. Bulkcarrier fertilizer loading, pre AQIS inspections in Sfax, Tunisia - North Africa. Advise on AMSA surveys.

Shipping Superintendent - for Pivot Ltd. - in Melbourne, Australia. Bulkcarrier scheduling, fertilizer and port operations, AQIS quarantine inspections and ACS (customs) tasks

Panama and Honduras: HINSIB licensed to carry out flag state surveys and inspections on behalf of the Government of Panama and Honduras and to issue safety certificates for vessels under these flags.

Belize, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Dominica and Guyana: International Register of Shipping licensed to carry out flag state surveys on behalf of these Governments for vessels under their flags.

Shipping Consultant - for the Museum of Victoria in Melbourne. Research into getting a polar expedition vessel back as an Antarctic museum ship. Classification work.

J. Lauritzen A/S, Denmark: Marine Superintendent - responsible for ship operation policies and procedures, inspection of ships world wide for compliance with international rules and regulations.

Beaufort Navigation Inc, Louisiana, USA: Port Captain - responsible for ship operation, cargo handling and trouble shooting in marine legal matters in the US Gulf Coast, South & Central America.

Société Ivorienne de Navigation Maritime, Ivory Coast: Port Captain - responsible for marine terminal, ship and cargo operations, and legal matters in North Africa, France, Italy and Spain for the shipping line .

Beaufort Dominicana de Navigation, The Dominican Republic: Project Manager and responsible for stevedoring, marine & port operations, legal matters, and trade development in Caribbean Islands, Latin America.

Royston, Raysor, Vickery & Williams, - Houston, USA: Investigations into a declared General Average involving substantial deck cargo damage and vessel’s deviation to Honolulu, Hawaii.
